Buan Chapter holds mock youth inter-Korean talks

The Buan County Chapter (Head Lee Young Sik) of the National Unification Advisory Council held a mock inter-Korean meeting of 20 first and second graders of Buan Girls' High School on July 17.

Prior to the mock inter-Korean talks, participating students attended a performance in which they wrote down their respective messages supporting the declaration of the end of the war on the Korean Peninsula.

The competition was held in order of politics, economy, and society teams. As they entered the talks without prepared texts, tension and excitement ran high.

The students who participated in the event said: "It was hard to prepare for the inter-Korean talks, but it gave time to understand the South and the North and think about peaceful unification again." "I felt burdened because of there were lots of reference materials, but once coming here, I really wanted to win the competition." “I had not cared much about the inter-Korean summit held several years ago, but the time I spent for preparing the mock talks and looking up videos and other materials was beneficial.” “I had thought that it would be easy to prepare for the talks from the positon of the South than that of the North, but I felt a greater difficulty.” “I had little idea when I had to prepare for the talks from the position of the North, but it was good to receive on-the-site guidance.

Chapter Head Lee Young Sik said, "I hope the mock inter-Korean talks, held as part of peace win-win education, will provide an opportunity for youths to broaden consensus on peaceful unification in the region."

The mock inter-Korean talks were held in compliance with the distancing rules set out to curb spread of COVID-19, and therefore participation was restricted.

The "Mock Youth Inter-Korean Talks" is scheduled to air at 7:50 a.m. on July 24 (Saturday) on KBS1 TV’s "The Windows of the South and the North" program.
