Jeonbuk Jeonju-si Chapter Held the 4th Peaceful Unification Citizen’s Class of 2022

(‘Peaceful Unification Academy’ Field Trip)

On September 24, the Jeonju-si Chapter (headed by Yu Chang-hui held the ‘Peaceful Unification Academy’ field trip as part of 2022 Peaceful Unification Citizen’s Class with 30 academy students at the Gunsan Modern History and Culture Sites.

The field trip was intended for participants to explore the historical and cultural sites in Gunsan, which was the center of maritime logistics in the past, through a guided tour, to observe the historical sites of Japanese occupation, and learn lessons from the historical pain of the country as well as promote communication and harmony among the academy students.

The field trip itinerary included Jinpo Marine Park built to commemorate the Battle of Jinpo, in which General Choe Mu-seon built warships and defeated 500 Japanese ships toward the end of the Goryeo Dynasty; the Gunsan Branch of the Bank of Joseon built for colonial rule during the Japanese colonial period; and Japanese-style temples and houses of Japanese samurai built in the port city of Gunsan to transport rice produced in the Gimje and Mangyeong plains to Japan.

The field trip participants said that although they knew that there were such historical sites nearby, they did not have a chance to visit them and that they were able to learn a lot about the historical sites through the day’s guided tour. They added that it was an opportunity to think about patriotism, too.

The next academy will be held on October 5 under the theme of 'The current state of North Korea's agriculture and fisheries and inter-Korean cooperation tasks.' It will be led Kim Hyeok, a senior researcher at Korea Rural Community Corporation.
