Chungnam Boryeong-si Chapter Held 6th Peaceful Unification Academy for Boryeong Citizens (Session 1)

The Boryeong-si Chapter (headed by Jeon Yun-su) held the 6th Peaceful Unification Academy for Boryeong Citizens (Session 1) on September 27 (Tuesday) at 2pm in the small auditorium of the Boryeong Culture Center in the presence of 50 people including PUAC council members and Boryeong citizens.

The 6th academy consists of four sessions from September 27 to October 18 with the aim of cultivating peace and unification leaders in the local community who will lead peace discussions and unification consensus through systematic learning on the topics of peace and unification.

The chapter head Jeon Yun-su said, “It is nice to meet you at the academy. In the current unstable international competition for hegemony, I think that the Republic of Korea should approach the issue of peaceful reunification under the principle of “An ounce of presentation is worth a pound of cure,” adding, “I hope that through this academy, Boryeong citizens can broaden their knowledge and insight on peace and unification, international situation and our government’s North Korea policies, so that they can strengthen their faith in peaceful unification without being swayed by international trends.”

The lecture in the first session was given by Dr. An Je-no, a senior research fellow at the Institute for National Security Strategy.

Under the theme of 'Bold Initiative and Peace on the Korean Peninsula,' Dr. An talked about recent changes in the relations between South Korea, North Korea, and the United States due to the current international situation, and elaborated on the 'bold initiative,' the Yoon Suk-Yeol government's North Korea policy roadmap.

As for South Korea’s tasks in terms of its future North Korea policies, he emphasized that unification should be approached in a variety of ways, yet focused on specific and realistic issues, since unification is not currently the main concern of the population. He asked the audience what they thought of the government’s North Korea policies and the current state of inter-Korean relations as well as North Korea itself. He concluded his lecture by asking the audience to think about in what direction they should approach the North Korean issue.

The second lecture will be given by Professor Baek Mi-soon, a researcher of peace and unification at Soongsil University, on Tuesday, October 4 at 2pm under the theme of ‘the Door Opening for Peaceful Unification through Music.’
