PUAC holds 2021 Peaceful Unification Golden Bell Online Finals

The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (Executive Vice-Chair Jeong Se Hyun, Secretary-General Bae Ki Chan) held the “2021 Peaceful Unification Golden Bell Finals” on July 31 (Saturday).

Because the “KBS Challenge Golden Bell,” which had doubled as the finals of the Peaceful Unification Golden Bell, have been called out last year and this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PUAC held the online finals on its own, in which all participating students attended non-face-to-face video conferences. A total of 91 students participated in the finals from among the students who had won the best and excellence awards in the finals of 17 domestic regional assemblies and five overseas assemblies.

The event which otherwise could be boring provided additional fun as it included videos of supporting families and friends of the participating students and bonus questions about the PUAC youth character "Hoikkasimi" (tiger and magpie).

Secretary-General Bae Ki Chan, who gave out a question about "Panmunjeom," said, "I hope the Golden Bell competition will give a time to love our history and think more deeply about peace and unification."

Executive Vice-Chair Jeong Se Hyun, who gave a question about Goseong, Gangwon-do, with eight finalists left, gave a shout of support for them. All the finalists gave the correct answer to the question.

Park Joon Woo, a student from the Miami Chapter in the U.S., won the Best Award. Park solved the Question No. 24 to become the last contestant and successfully tackled difficult questions afterward, but failed to ring the Golden Bell. All the participating students cheered and applauded for Park who, tackling the questions alone, wrote answers to 12 questions without difficulties.

The Peaceful Unification Golden Bell Online Finals will be uploaded to the PUAC website.
