<The 3rd Hometown Peace Plan Citizens>

2022 Pohang Peace Plan Citizens Held at POSTECH (Sep. 2)

Pohang citizens prepared Pohang Peace Plan ranging from the creation of the 'Haeparang Peace Trail' to the organization of the 'Citizens' Peace Choir.'

‘2022 Pohang Peace Plan’ hosted by the Pohang Peace Plan Preparation Committee (chaired by Lee Sang-cheon, former deputy head of Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly) and hosted by the PUAC Pohang Chapter (headed by Kim Jin-hong) was held on September 2 (Fri) at 2 pm in the Grand Ballroom of the POSCO International Center, POSTECH.

More than 100 Pohang citizens participated in the forum held under the theme of ‘Pohang Peace Plan Created by Pohang Citizens Themselves.’

In his opening remarks, chapter head Kim Jin-hong said, "Our hometown, Pohang, has led the development of the Republic of Korea. It is equipped with the capacity to lead peaceful unification based on human and material resources in the future," stressing, "In that sense, it is meaningful in itself that Pohang citizens themselves will rediscover the value of peaceful unification, discover the stories of peaceful unification in our hometown, and propose and implement peaceful unification tasks on their own.”

He went on to say, “I hope today’s civic dialogue will be an important turning point in bringing the discourse on peaceful unification closer into our daily lives.”

Prior to the topic discussion, Pohang City Council member Choi Gwang-yeol gave a presentation on ‘the Value and Meaning of the Pohang Peace Plan’ followed by the proposal titled '2022 Pohang Peaceful Unification Promotion Tasks' by Lee Won-man, former head of the Pohang branch of the Korean Traditional Music Association.

The discussion session began with the announcement of the results of a preliminary survey on the discussion topic. Based on the outcomes, the participants redefined the tasks for the peaceful unification of Pohang through a full-fledged discussion followed by the presentation of action plans worked out by the participants themselves.

Then, participants presented their ideas about both the tasks and action plans followed by a vote on them. Tasks selected through the vote include 'Creating the Haeparang-Dalparang Peace Trail’ and 'A Finally Delivered Letter from a Student Soldier (a sculpture and a video about student soldiers).'

At the concluding pledge time, Lee Sang-cheon, chair of the Pohang Peace Plan Preparation Committee, Lee Sang-cheol, special advisor for political affairs for Pohang City, Kim Il-man, vice-chair of Pohang City Council, Kim Jin-hong, head of PUAC Pohang Chapter, and An Jin-yong, director of the Consultation & Advice Bureau of the PUAC went up to the podium. They promised that they will actively cooperate and provide support so that the peaceful unification promotion tasks created by the citizens can be successfully implemented.

Meanwhile, Hometown Peace Plan Citizens is slated to be held in six regions this year. Beginning with the one held in Incheon Yeonsu-gu, the Pohang event marked the turning point of this year’s events. Gwangju Nam-gu will be the next host of the event.
