In view of the eventual unification of Korea, the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC) aims to explore issues and policies that have impact on the unification process.

One of the major challenges globally and domestically is the issue of immigration.  In this context, the challenge nowadays is the increasing demand for countries to absorb competent and skillful labor to contribute towards the economy.

Specifically, within the complexities of immigration, is the challenge of ‘Social Integration’ of Immigrants and its ways and means to more effectively assimilate 3rd country persons into the economy.  This will be an even bigger challenge when unification comes to the fore, in line with Korea’s pursuit to become a ‘global pivotal state’.

This Seminar will look at Central and Eastern European experiences in ‘Social Integration’ of Immigrants and seek lessons learned that could be taken into account for immigration policy-making in preparation for Korean unification.
