puac hosts 'youth! one step toward unification 2023'
the peaceful unification advisory council (executive vice-chairperson kim kwan-yong, secretary general seok dong-hyeon) held "youth! one step toward unification 2023" july 5-7 at the ministry of unification's center for unified korean future located in yeoncheon county, gyeonggi-do. about 250 domestic and overseas puac members and members of youth organizations participated in the event.
the event was designed and undertaken by members of the youth committee on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the korean war and the rok-u.s. alliance to share the unification vision and security awareness of young people, form consensus on unification, and discuss the direction of young people’s unification and security activities and ways to foster their participation.
'youth! one step toward unification 2023' included a keynote lecture, discussions on the direction of youth activities for unification and security, field trips to unification and security-related sites, programs to activate youth partnerships and networks, and special lectures.
rep. cho jung-hoon, head of transition korea and a member of the 21st national assembly, gave the keynote lecture on 'peace, unification, security and youth,' in which he spoke about the unification vision and youth participation. choi won-il, former captain of the cheonan naval vessel, gave a special lecture titled 'captain's sea.' he talked about the recent situation on the korean peninsula and called on the youth to be aware of security issues.
the participating youths also discussed ways to activate youth participation in unification and security-related fields, promote human rights in north korea, raise youth security awareness, promote youth unification public diplomacy activities, and activate their role in social integration. x-x-based on the discussions, the participants drew up ‘resolution on the direction of youth unification and security activities.’
they also had a chance to strengthen their commitment to unification and security by visiting sites symbolizing national division such as key observatory and baengmagoji hill and participating in the unified future experience program at the korean peninsula unification future center.
